Some useful advices how to avoid meeting scammers and middlemen I’ve decided to write this warning because recently many swindlers and
middlemen have appeared in the Internet, making the money on our common love
for the French bulldogs. I’ve begun to receive many messages from the
people in the USA and Canada who had paid for the puppy of “show-quality”
from Russia, and then either didn’t receive the puppy at all, or didn’t
receive a pedigree, or the puppy was pet quality (not for show), or the puppy had any genetical defects which
became apparent only in some months after purchase.
I already wrote about swindlers who used my pictures and then didn’t ship the puppy at all, or ship another (and often sick). Now I’d like to warn you against middlemen and resellers though this info will help you to distinguish swindlers too. Be cautious and prudent purchasing a puppy through the Internet from Russia, Ukraine, Hungary and other East European countries. And by the way, from the USA too. With development of the Internet many people have decided, that it is possible to earn good money on it. They have made nice websites where they show the pictures ostensibly their dogs. They put ads on all sites that they allegedly own well-known kennel and always have the show quality puppies for sale. Though actually almost all of them are middlemen and resellers who buy the puppies in all Russia and then resell them. Even if they are fair and will send you that puppy which you have chosen in the pictures, they can’t know the truth about his health and a health of his parents. Decide for yourself, whether you want to have a dog from really known and reputable kennel or not. Do you want to buy a puppy from the reseller, who knows nothing about the parents of this puppy, except for their names? Do you want to pay only a cost of this puppy or also a salary for one – two middlemen? There are some advices how to investigate their websites and advertisements when you are going to make a purchase through the Internet. First of all, attentively consider the whole website of the seller if he has it. Look the whole website, all pages without exception. Try to decide, what his owner has created this website for. I saw many websites where only an information about the puppies for sale was. There were no the pictures of adult dogs of this kennel, the pedigrees, etc. It is obvious that they are middlemen or puppymill. They create websites with the unique purpose - to sell the puppies or for scam. Attentively consider the information in the pedigrees of their dogs. If it is absent, think well. This kennel is hardly well-known and respectable. Look at “show-news” page. If this kennel is really known, it won’t hesitate to inform about the wins of their dogs and to congratulate their previous buyers in Russia and other countries on wins at dog shows. Remember, that regular participation in dog shows is rather expensive pleasure in all countries without exception and may be a sign of good kennel. Read the guest book. Contact the last buyers who left their messages in it, ask their opinion about the health and personality of their puppy. And ask his full (registered) name. Devote your attention to page “Links”. Are there the banners or links to well-known European or American kennels? If yes, open their sites to become convinced, that they are really well-known kennels and look, whether they have back-links to this kennel. If yes, it means this kennel is really known and reputable. For example we will never put a link to the site about which we know nothing. If the seller on his site does not have any links or only has free-of-charge sites for advertising, stop and think. May be, this kennel pretend to be well-known, and actually it is either puppymill or reseller. Second. None of the kennels in Russia can’t have the puppies for sale the whole year round, especially show - quality. And none of the litters has all puppies of show quality, even out of top quality dogs. Most Russian people who advertise themself as well-known or top and they always have the puppies all colors, in reality have only 1-2, rare 3 dams, therefore they can get only 1-2 litters per year. The rest is resale! For example, our kennel undoubtedly is the largest in Russia among breeding Frenchies. We have more than 10 dams and 3 top quality sires who are often used for mating, and all of them live with us in our house. And even we have the puppies for sale not always, especially all colors and show quality. Because we carefully select the pairs for breeding, the part of future puppies are reserved before birth, and we have the waiting list for the puppies out of some sires and dams. Ask those sellers who declares, that he always has the puppies for sale, how many litters per year he has with his prefix. According the rules of Russian Kynological Federation (RKF) all puppies born in this kennel have the full name necessarily containing as a prefix the name of this kennel. Eventually, you always may call to RKF (it is RKF website) and ask them what they know about this kennel and how many litters per year are registered with its prefix. If they couldn’t recollect this kennel it means this kennel is known in very narrow circle. If you don’t have other opportunity, write or call me. Being seriously involved in the world of Russian dogs already over the time of almost 15 years, I know many good kennels breeding dogs of different breeds. If I can I will try to help you and to find the truthful information. Don’t ask me to become a middleman or to find good kennel for you. Ask only fair and truthful information about a kennel that you’re going to deal with. Third. Ask the seller, what relation he has to this puppy. Does he own a sire or a dam of this litter? It is usual in Russia to pay for mating with a sire from another kennel by a puppy (or puppies), not by money. That’s why we sometimes sell the puppies with full names not including our prefix. They are out of our sire and not out of our dam. And then necessarily ask to send you the copies of the pedigrees of this litter's parents. Xerocopies of export pedigrees in English! They have standard form and there is an information on who are a breeder and an owner of this dog. If the seller is neither a breeder nor an owner of sire or dam of this litter it means he is reseller, middlemen, or maybe, scammer. If he tells you that the pedigree is in Russian only, it means, most likely, this dog - unpretentious, without any titles and good bloodlines. And at the worst, he tries to deceive you. All well-known breeders have export pedigrees of their dogs in English, it is impossible to participate in the international dog shows, both in Russia and abroad, without these pedigrees. Fourth. If you see the offer to sell the puppies by the whole litter, stop and run away. It is usual puppymill, earning the money on your love with the dogs. Unimportantly, how many dams are in this kennel, 2-3 or 15-20. I know the world famous kennels in Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium and other countries, that own 15-20 and even more dogs. But all of them live in the house with the people, have excellent care, good feeding, and participate in dog shows. For example, we never deal with any middlemen and pet store, we never sell our puppies by whole litters. Though we receive such offers often and often. We always sell the puppies only to the buyer directly and then we trace, how he grows and develops. Buying a puppy in our kennel, you pay only for a puppy, not paying services of middlemen. Also you receive obviously healthy puppy with healthy parents and grandparents because the most of our dogs have our dogs in their pedigrees. You easily may check it, having looked their pedigrees on our website. Try to do it on the website of that seller who offers the puppy for you. If you won't find such information, think very well about purchase. Fifth. About the price for the puppies. The price always depends on their quality, their bloodlines and show prospects. But if they say that in any case the price for the puppy from Russia can't be less than $1000, know, that they are resellers or middlemen. They should divide your money to some people - directly for the puppy and to one–two middlemen in Russia and in the USA. And everyone wants to receive more, that's why their price even for the pet quality puppy out of unknown parents always is more than $1000. Sixth. A way of payment. You should know that we in Russia unfortunately have no an opportunity to accept payment via PayPal or credit cards. You could check it yourself on www.paypal.com. Look at the list of the countries which participate in it. Russia is absent there. Therefore if people from Russia tell you that they accept payment via PayPal or from your credit card, they use middlemen in the USA or any other country. We in Russia can receive the money by Western Union or by money transfer to the bank account only. And that’s all! Seventh. About references. Always ask 2-3 references and call (not only email) these people. Also ask them about a health and personality of their dogs. And try to ask full name of their dog. Is this dog really from that kennel which you are going to buy from? Because it may appear that this kennel has good references but previous dogs had no any relation to this kennel. They had simply resold the dogs born in the other kennel. And now they offer you the puppy from absolutely another breeder. Such references cost not much. Eighth. About guarantees and contracts. Don't expect that the written contract guarantees you against scammer or swindler. You see we live in the different countries overseas and there is no any court which will help you in this case. If they want to deceive you, they will deceive with the contract or without it. Only good references and the reputation of fair and well-known kennel (not only in Russia, but also in Europe and in the USA) may be some kind of a guarantee. Ninth, and last. One little trick. Attempt to say the seller that you will take a business trip to his town next week (or your friend, brother, sister resides not far from that seller). And you'd like to visit him and look at the puppies and their parents. And to take their pictures by yourself. And look what will be his answer. If he says - You're welcome! - it is well. If he says that he will be absent just the same days and couldn't receive you.... You understand what to do in this case. Certainly, each above-mentioned item seeing separately is not a obligatory attribute of the dishonest seller, but all together they will give you rather explicit form of that person which you are going to deal with. Writing this warning, I received the letter from Kalaya Valdez from the USA with the following content: «Hello Olga, I was recently a victim of Victor AKA Manuel a Cruz. I saw your website about the scammer. I lost 1100.00 $ USD. I am currently dealing with a breeder from Russia for a bulldog right now. I was curious if you knew anything about hem. Their website is www.bullcave.com. If you can let me know if they are good honest people or scammers please inform me. Thank you, Kalaya». Though I know the breeders of English bulldogs not well, but during my very often participations in dog shows I have never met dogs with a prefix of this kennel. On the basis of it, and also closely having investigated their website, I have made up a conclusion, that poor Kalaya, most likely, have again fallen into clutches of swindlers. I wish all of you to refrain from repetition her mistakes. By the way this website is not working now. Listen to my advices and then you will find good breeder and for your money you will receive beautiful, healthy, good socialized puppy. And will love this unusual dog's breed, which name is the FRENCH BULLDOG, all your life. |
